There
are 3 major parts to this project: the brochure, your choice of
secondary visual product, and the group presentation. All three
will be due on Wednesday, October 21.
The Brochure (30 points)
Create an informational brochure using Microsoft Publisher.
I
will conduct a short workshop in class on Friday, October 16, for
those who are unfamiliar with this software. Remember you should
design an attractive brochure that will make people want to travel to
your
destination!
Following are the requirements for the brochure:
- Brochure should have 3 panels. You should not have any large, blank spaces. Be sure to use the front and the back.
- Include a paragraph that
briefly explains what ecotourism is, how it is defined, and examples of
activities that fall into this category.
- The main focus of your
brochure is to present an area of your country that is a popular
ecotourist destination. You should describe the geographic area,
what types of activities are available, and advertise at least 1
eco-friendly lodge or resort in this area.
- Include at least 4 graphics; 2 of these graphics must be actual photographs of your area and/or lodge.
- Create a slogan that ties
together your brochure and put it on the first panel. For example,
Costa Rica's country motto is "Pura Vida" or Pure Life. (Costa Rica
people can't use this!)
- Put all group members' names on the bottom of the center back panel.
- Click here for the rubric I will use to grade your brochure.
Your Choice Visual Product (25 points)
Create
a visual product that conveys the information found in your brochure.
You may choose from (but are not limited to) the following:
powerpoint presentation, web page, podcast, video, song, skit, or radio
announcement. In any case, consider this to be a "living"
advertisement for your country. Remember that you were enlisted
to "sell" ecotourism in your country to the American public!
Below is the checklist I will use to evaluate this product: (each statement is worth 5 points)
Product
conveys all of the information found in the brochure.
Product
is an advertisement for your country (should be persuasive in nature).
Product
mentions the name of your country, region, and at least 3 activities that can
be enjoyed there.
Product
includes at least 3 authentic graphics that enhance the visual experience.
All
group members participate equally in the “performance” of the product (i.e.
each member has an equal role in a skit; each member speaks equally in a
podcast, etc.)
Group Presentation (10 points)
Present
your brochure and visual product to the class in a professional manner
that equally involves all members of your group. The presentation
should last approximately 5 minutes.
Below is the checklist I will use to evaluate this product: (each statement is worth 2 points)
Group
is well prepared and presents on time, adhering to approximately 5 minutes in
length.
Each
group member has an equal role in the presentation.
Group
maintains a professional demeanor (no laughing, smooth transitions, etc.).
Group
is able to answer questions related to their presentation.
All materials necessary for the presentation are ready and available.
