dollars per year! However, in many cases, tourism has a negative impact
on our environment. Borne out of the need to protect our earth
while maintaining tourism, two major groups of people have come
together - those who promote travel and tourism and those who strive to
preserve our natural environment - and have created their own blend of
ecologically sound tourism.
Ecotourism is a relatively new term that was first mainstreamed in the 1980s although ecotourism had been ocurring in Africa since the 1950s. In the past 5 years, ecotourism has become the most important buzz word when it comes to travel, especially in Latin America. As you will learn through this webquest, there are many advantages and disadvantages to this type of tourism. You should draw your own conclusions based on your research; remember that there is no right or wrong answer.
