What is a podcast?

A podcast is a media file (audio, video, or both) that is distributed over the Internet, for playback on mobile devices or personal computers.  The term "podcast" is derived by combining the word "broadcast" with  Apple's portable music player, the iPod.  Podcasts may be anything from a news broadcast to a garage band's recording.

The novelty of podcasts is that you can listen to them whenever or wherever you want - on the bus to school, through your car stereo, or even while waiting in the doctor's office.

Who can make a podcast?

Anyone with an internet connection and a microphone can create a podcast.  Upload your audio file to the web, and you have created a podcast that is available for download!

Why are we making podcasts?

This is an alternative to a traditional, oral presentation.  Podcasts enable you to record and re-record until your presentation is the best you can make it.  You are better able to understand your mistakes and hear how you can make improvements.

How many podcasts are on the web?

Even though this is a relatively new phenomenon, there are thousands of podcasts on the web!

Where can I find more podcasts?

Try the following sites:
http://epnweb.org
(Educational Podcasts)
www.apple.com/itunes
(Apple iTunes)
www.podomatic.com (Podomatic)
